One weekend - two 200 brevets. Each brevet is one way (point to point route) between Globe and Show Low.
This route is typical Arizona: very remote, very picturesque. This is mining country and we're definitely in the mountains. The most dramatic part of the ride is the 10 mile plunge down to the Salt River.
The Game Plan for Two Day Riders: Most riders will want to arrive in Globe on Friday night. (Please make a reservation for yourself at a nearby hotel. I can recommend the Days Inn and Motel 6 but there are a zillion places to stay in Globe.) Saturday morning, we'll leave our cars in Globe, and ride the brevet to Show Low where we'll stay over on Saturday night. (Again, accommodations are on your own. Sunday's start is at the Days Inn but Best Western is across the street.) On Sunday, we'll ride the brevet course in reverse back to Gobe and to our cars.
Terrain: Strongly rolling until you get to Salt River Canyon. The road plunges 10 miles down a number of switchbacks to the bottom of the canyon. Then we have to climb 10 miles to get out of it. Over 11,000 feet of climbing on Saturday and 8,600 feet on Sunday..

1. Convenience store at SR 60 and SR 73
2. Hon Dah Casino
11,331 feet of climbing.
Minimum/maximum elevation: 3354/7223 feet above sea level

1. Hon Dah Casino
2.
Convenience store at SR 60/SR 73.
8,607 feet of climbing
Minimum/maximum elevation: 3354/7223 feet above sea level.
Riders are expected to do simple repairs such as repair a flat tire.
Lights: Optional. However, if you're still riding after sunset, you need lights as required by law.
At this point, this is a self supported tour. Riders are expected to carry their own gear. However, for the past 2 tours we've had someone volunteer to drive the support car and carry our gear and extra water. (That was our pal and Gerry's brother, Ed from Florida.)
Without a support car, your first opportunity for food and water is 62 miles into the ride at the convenience store at the corner of SR 60 and SR 73. (Yeah, we could sure use a support car.) There are no services for sale at the bottom of Salt River Canyon.
The next major opportunity for food and water is 28 miles away in Fort Apache where there's a Bashas grocery store and some convenience stores. After that we hit the Hon Dah Casino about 20 more miles down the road. After the casino there are many services as we travel through Pinetop and Show Low.
Once you get to the Days Inn in Show Low, there are several restaurants within walking distane.
From Show Low to Globe the next day, it's 17 miles to the convenience store at the casino. Anothe r 20 miles and you're in Fort Apach. Forty-seven miles later you're at the convenience store at the corner of SR 60 and SR 73. Next is that long stretch through Salt River Canyon. With no services at the bottom of the canyon, you must travel 62 miles self contained until Globe.
