Hello Randos!

Here are some last-minute notes about Saturday's rides. Please read them so that you come prepared.

  1. RWGPS maps and Cue Sheets: If you downloaded any documents prior to receiving this email, you need to download them again. There have been a few changes since the pre rides.
    1. A note about GPS devices. I’m seeing more and more Garmin devices NOT using the custom cues that I add to all of my RWGPS files and cue sheets. Make sure that you have your device setup properly to use the custom cues and to not use its own internal cues. There are a lot of instances where I have corrected erroneous cues that are auto-generated.
  1. Construction:  There is some construction on the rides, but nothing was bad enough to re-route. If you encounter construction, you should be able to ride to the right of the cones if things have not changed since the pre rides. Always use caution thru the zones as obstacles can pop up overnight.
  2. All courses are starting concurrently and will be riding together until each splits off to maintain the prescribed distances. Don’t blindly follow other riders without knowing which course they are on.
    1. Courses split at miles: 88 (142km) and 135 (217km), respectively.
  1. Parking at the Start: Please park behind the Circle K. There is an abundance of parking back there. I should be there by 5:30 to get everyone checked in.
  2. Lights and reflective gear: Front and rear lights are required for everyone since we will be starting in the dark. Per RUSA requirements, reflective gear and ankle bands are also required for any riding before sunrise and after sunset. Be visible!
  3. Support on the rides: There will be none. These events will be self-supported. Make sure you look over the maps/cue sheets so that you are prepared to restock when necessary.

A.      There will be no one at the finish. You may use any of the methods listed in the EPP document for your proof of passage there.

B.      Your DORC (Day of Ride Contact) will be Steve Atkins. If you have any issues and feel that you need some sort of support, you can call Steve. His mobile is: 602.549.5331. His number is also on the Brevet card.

  1. Start Time06:00. Please be there early enough to get your bike and yourself together so that everyone can start on time. I will give any last minute instructions at about 05:55. Also, please check in with me so that I can check you off my list.
  2. You must bring your own documents.  GPS files and cue sheets are linked at azrandos.com, and the control cards are linked below.
  3. Every rider should be prepared to collect and submit proof of passage for this brevet.  The current protocol is detailed here.  azrandos.com/epp/  Please read and understand this info! If you have questions, ask BEFORE you start your ride.
  4. All Info Control questions will be found on the Brevet cards. The control card can only be obtained by printing it in advance of the ride. Here are links to the Brevet Cards, in case you plan to use it.

  3. If you abandon the ride at any point, please text me to let me know.
  4. There will be no one at the finish to greet you. We don’t have enough volunteers to staff this control. Use your preferred method for proof of passage here.

Let me know if you have any questions.
