Hello
Randos and Happy New Year!
Here are some last minute notes about Saturday's rides. Please
read it so that you come prepared.
- I pre rode the Sears-Kay route
and found only 1 construction issue. There is about 1.5
miles of construction starting at mile 4. You can ride to
the right of the barriers unless there is active work
going on. If you do need to move into the travel lane, use
caution!
The first 100k of the Bartlett route will get your
attention. There's almost 6000' of climbing during that
time. I recommend that you not burn too many matches until
you're climbing back out from the lake. Speaking of riding
to the lake, the pavement is brand new! Nice. It will
almost make you forget that you're climbing. 😉
- Both courses are starting
concurrently and will be riding together
until the 200k riders make their Bartlett Lake turnoff. We
will have support at Sears-Kay ruins (mile 32) with water
and food. This is a control, so make sure you stop in to
see us. We will mark you off a checklist and then you
won't need to do anything else as a control. We don't need
to sign your card, unless you want us to.
- Parking at the Start:
Please park beside and/or behind Cortaro Coffee to leave
the limited parking spaces out front for the businesses'
patrons. Cortaro Coffee makes a really good brew. If you
want a morning beverage and pastry, I highly recommend
that you patronize them.
- Lunch after the ride. My
plan is to provide you with a Subway sandwich meal after
the ride. Details will be provided during the morning
meeting.
- Route
Note, Please Read: Both rides will make a
right turn off of Cave Creek Rd near the end (miles 68.5
and 125.5, respectively). The road is called Lone
Cactus Dr. The sign for this road is turned 90
degrees and you will see the road sign as "Cave Creek
Rd". Be aware of this and prepare for the turn. It's
immediately after you cross the CAP irrigation canal
bridge.
- Start
Time:
08:00. Please be there early enough to get your bike and
yourself together and enjoy your coffee so that everyone
can start on time. I will give any last minute
instructions at about 07:55. Also, please check in with me
so that I can check you off my list.
- You
must bring your own documents, to
make this brevet touchless. GPS files and
cue sheets
are linked at www.azbrevet.com,
and the control cards are linked below.
- Every
rider should be prepared to collect and submit proof of
passage for this brevet.
- Let
me know if you decide not to start or abandon your ride.
Send an email or text to notify me - 602.702.2132.
- Please
also text me if you are running late so that we can
account for you on the road. I will be riding and will
be leaving at 8:00 with the other riders.
Proof of passage for RUSA credit for a completed
ride can be achieved three ways. It
is your choice of which method you choose.
All the specific details may be
found HERE
on the web. Please
familiarize yourself with them.
- Electronic
proof of passage (EPP), by submitting a public track of
your ride that shows the time it began and ended. NOTE:
GPS devices can, and do, fail. If YOU choose this
as your only method of verification, YOU also
accept the responsibility that if something goes wrong,
you will not get credit for the ride. Plan accordingly.
- Digital
photographs taken on your phone or digital camera at each
control, submitted via email after the ride. The 1st
Control (Sears-Kay Ruin) will be staffed with water and
snacks.
- A
traditional control card with receipts from commercial
controls and answers at information controls, submitted
by email of the scanned information after
the ride (no photos of the receipts and card - too hard to
read). The control card can only be obtained by
printing it in advance of the ride from these links:
- 100k:

- 200k:
Brevet card HERE
Proof of passage
must be submitted to the organizer @ mikesturgill@cox.net
All proof of passage
must be emailed within 48 hours of ride completion, because results
for all riders will only be sent to RUSA after all results are
received.
Let
me know if you have any questions.
